Our First Adventure of the Summer

Well, it was a little unplanned, but we ended up driving up to Acadia National Park. But, our first stop was http://fortknox.maineguide.com/ Fort Knox and the infamous Penobscot Bridge. If you have a paralizing fear of heights, you might want to watch from the ground on this one. It was amazing. The entrance fee for the park isn't that bad and they combine the fees if you see both. If you have a Maine Park Pass, which I think is the best if you love to explore, than you're all set.

At Fort Knox you can wait for a free guided tour or explore the place yourself with the brochure they give you. We decided to go that route. Make sure you bring a flashlight to explore the nooks and crannies. You could spend a good part of your day walking the grounds, pretending you're in a battle, imagining what it was like back then, and just enjoying the natural air conditioning the Fort provides.

I would suggest bringing a picnic lunch - going for the least expensive route - or you can cross over the Penobscot Bridge and hit one of the restaurants in the area.
