Having Fun With the Wii
Another way we have fun is with the Wii. We got it for Christmas last year, so the money was spent, but well spent. Now with the new pad they have, it's great exercise and entertainment. You can go to this link Feed My Wii! and download Wii games, music and movies for a one time fee. It's pretty awesome.
Movie Night
Another way to pass time - especially on those rainy days - is watching movies. Now, we all know it's expensive to go to the theatre, sooooo - we make it fun at home. We make all kinds of snacks, lay a blanket on the floor with lots of pillows and the nicest thing is the pause button.
We rent ours from Netflix. Love them. You can rent up to four movies at a time and keep them as long as you like. Check them out.

On To Acadia
What a beautiful drive. Wow, Bar Harbor and Acadia are up there! Again, I suggest packing food, especially if you're driving from as far south as Lewiston like us. There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy a nice picnic while the kids explore the area.
If you have a Park Pass this is a wonderful way to spend a day, or camp in the area and spend a weekend, without emptying your wallets.
They give you a brochure when you arrive and you can go to the gift shop and buy "Motorist Guide Park Loop Road" for $1.90. Worth the two bucks. That way you don't miss things like "Thunder Hole." The kids could watch the wave crash all day. It was amazing.
Or you would miss the sites at Sand Beach. This is a very small beach, but a nice area to stop and picnic and cool off. Well, if 50-60 degree water temps is your idea of cooling off. The kids didn't seem to mind, neither did the foreigners. WOW! Nice floatie!
We spent a day there and only saw a few of the wonders of Acadia. I can't wait to go back and see what else we can discover.
Our First Adventure of the Summer
Well, it was a little unplanned, but we ended up driving up to Acadia National Park. But, our first stop was http://fortknox.maineguide.com/ Fort Knox and the infamous Penobscot Bridge. If you have a paralizing fear of heights, you might want to watch from the ground on this one. It was amazing. The entrance fee for the park isn't that bad and they combine the fees if you see both. If you have a Maine Park Pass, which I think is the best if you love to explore, than you're all set.
At Fort Knox you can wait for a free guided tour or explore the place yourself with the brochure they give you. We decided to go that route. Make sure you bring a flashlight to explore the nooks and crannies. You could spend a good part of your day walking the grounds, pretending you're in a battle, imagining what it was like back then, and just enjoying the natural air conditioning the Fort provides.
I would suggest bringing a picnic lunch - going for the least expensive route - or you can cross over the Penobscot Bridge and hit one of the restaurants in the area.

Fun With The Kids
I think our favorite pass-time here in Maine is searching for crabs. We like going to Cape Elizabeth. http://lobstershacktwolights.com/ If you go to the Lobster Shack you're in the right place. Just walk along the rocks and search the tide pools. If you go during the colder parts of the years you'll have more luck, but we've found sea urchins, lots of snails, mussels and whatever the tide brings in.
